Welcome Back 2024

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year.

The Academy will re-open on Monday 8th January at the normal time for all year groups.

Please read the information below that was sent out in the End of Term letter, especially around the use of E-Scooters, these are not permitted on site:

Attendance

We expect all students to attend the Academy each day unless there is a valid and justified reason.  Students must attend to achieve and every lesson matters.

Students should arrive at the Academy by 8.15 am and at their period 1 classroom by 8.20 am, lessons begin at 8.25 am. We ask if parents are dropping their children off at the academy, could they please do so before 8.15am. Additionally, students should not be dropped off/picked up from the carpark unless you have a permit to do so. If you feel that you require a permit, please contact the academy.

If your child is absent from the Academy, please telephone every day on 01709 302244 option 1 or email to attendance@laurelacademy.org.uk to give a reason for absence.  Staff are available to take calls from 7.30 am onwards; however, we do have an answering machine service out of the Academy hours from 4pm until 7.30 am. Alternatively, as you are already aware, contact can be made via the My Child at School App.

We ask where possible to make any appointments including medical, after Academy hours.  We appreciate that this may not always be possible. With that in mind, we would suggest if any appointments are to be made could they please be made towards the end of the Academy day. This would ensure that your child misses the minimum amount of valuable learning from their lesson. Students must sign out at student reception and follow the Academy procedures. The Academy cannot authorise all day absences for medical/doctor’s appointments.

Punctuality

Students are expected to be in their first lesson at 8.25 am.  If students arrive after 8.25 am they will be issued with a detention.  If your child has a medical appointment at the start of the day, please ask for an appointment card.  If no card is produced when a student arrives, a detention will be issued.

E-Scooters

With effect from the 8th January 2024, E-Scooters will not be permitted on the Academy site. There has been an increasing number of incidents due to students riding at speed on the school driveway. Please read the following information for additional advice on E-Scooter usage. Advice on e-scooter usage | Police.uk (www.police.uk)
